Fletcher is well known to love the sport. It was naturally a relief then, that he didn’t have to give it up earlier than expected.
“It was a massive relief to hear it,” he said. “I was a bit chewed about it until then. The leg feels different but not in a bad way.
“The way I see it is everyone will feel different from one person to the next and that shouldn’t stop them doing the things they want to do.
“This is something I want to do. Fighting is in my make-up, so there’s no reason for me to give up on it so easily.”
He will return on Made4TheCage 19:Karma on November 28, moving up a division from lightweight back to welterweight where he started his career.
He had some good victories at the weight, most notably against Cage Warriors veteran Matt Inman, and hopes his next scalp will be Frenchman Vincent Del Guerra who he meets for the vacant European title.
Fletcher said: “It killed me basically. Cutting ridiculous amounts of weight and just not feeling myself any more in fights.
“I felt strong at welterweight at the start of my career and I beat some people who have gone on to do good things. I think because I could make lightweight, I did make lightweight, but that wasn’t necessarily the best thing for my body or my career.
“I just want to have fun with my fighting again. That’s when I’m at my most dangerous, when I’m being off the cuff. I’m not a 17-year-old kid with aspirations of fighting in the UFC any more. I’m a grown man with a wife and kids who does well out of this sport.
